Websites dedicated to keeping or re-introducing non-metric measures.

Some of these websites are highly interesting and contain fascinating details and historical information. They also give a very good insight into the issues arising when changing from one measurement system into another.

However, one of word of warning: some of these websites are not very stimulating intellectually. Many arguments are along the lines of “I have used imperial units for all my life and they seem more natural to me. Therefore, they must be better.” This is akin to saying that one is more familiar with things one is accustomed to and less accustomed to new things.

Other arguments seem like more or less successful attempts in self-justification for a particular personal like or dislike.

Please be aware that, especially in Britain, the issue of measurement units is sometimes of interest to particular political groups. These groups are usually not interested in a fair discussion of pro and cons, or in the dissemination of accurate information. Measures are thus sometimes used as a vehicle for political goals.

Please judge for yourself. I think it is only fair for both sides to have a word.
